The very first opening season of Stazione Radio ran for 120 days during which it became an important point of reference for sustainability. With a rich schedule of 170 events, the area of the former electrical cabin of Milano Centrale has transformed into a lively center of culture and participation, hosting live podcast shows, concerts, events and workshops dedicated to a sustainable lifestyle.
Among the most followed initiatives, the podcast series Viaggi nella sostenibilità has been a great success, with live recordings that actively involved the attendees of the cultural center. The topics covered ranged from green cities to the future of Europe, involving experts and personalities from the world of culture and science.
The very first season of Stazione Radio has seen the participation of very notable guests, each with an unique story to tell. Among them, Monsignor Mario Delpini, Archbishop of Milan, stood out, bringing a message of hope and responsibility towards the planet, underlining the importance of sustainability not only as an environmental commitment, but also as an ethical and moral value.
The Councilor for Culture of the Municipality of Milan, Tommaso Sacchi, envisioned a city committed to becoming increasingly green and inclusive. Elena Grandi, Councilor for the Environment, highlighted local policies for environmental protection.
There was no shortage of well-known names in journalism and culture, such as Daria Bignardi and Cecilia Sala, who shared with the audience their experiences and reflections. Pietro Leeman, a starred chef, combined culinary art and sustainability, while podcaster Gianpiero Jam Kesten brought his innovative vision to the world of podcasting. Other guests, including Lorenza Ghidini (editor-in-chief of Radio Popolare) and Federico Fubini (Deputy Director of Corriere della Sera), enriched the debate with their perspectives, while activists such as Franco Grillini and Andrea Grieco focused the importance of civic engagement.
Confirming the value of our initiative, Gherardo Colombo praised Stazione Radio as a useful space to promote knowledge and fight prejudice. He emphasized how initiatives like our are essential to create an open and inclusive dialogue in society.
Four young podcasters under 25 animated the stage with the podcast review of Stazione Radio, a series dedicated to the latest news in the podcasting scene, broadcasted from the stage-car and enriched by the presence of prominent authors.
During the season, Stazione Radio hosted:
The stage-car proved to be a dynamic live music space, hosting over twenty bands of emerging and independent artists with an eye for inclusion, offering everyone, regardless of age, race, gender or religion, the opportunity to perform and reach new audiences.
Stazione Radio also established itself as a meeting place, welcoming tourists and residents of the neighborhood who spent time in the location to socialize, read, study or simply rest under the beach umbrellas. This welcoming environment is independent of the logic of consumerism, proposing itself as a place of aggregation where people can meet and share experiences, fostering a sense of community and inclusion.
Stazione Radio also provided an opportunity for 12 university students to experiment while working in a variety of settings: from the social bistro, to artistic and podcast production, to the eco-tourism service. These experiences provided valuable hands-on learning opportunities for them and contributed to the success of the season.
A distinctive aspect of the season was the organization of ten free workshops, designed to promote sustainability practices. These workshops covered a wide range of topics, from clothing and bicycle repair to plant propagation, to sessions aimed to counteract fake news. Through these activities, participants were able to acquire practical skills and knowledge useful for living more sustainably.
